SAT 2022 Math Practice Test 39 Grid Ins Questions with Answer Keys

SAT Math Practice Online Test Question No 1:

What is 0.5% of 80?

Show/Hide Answer Key

Correct Answer: 0.41

Remember that “percent” means “divided by 100,” so 0.5 percent of 80 means 0.5 ÷ 100 × 80 0.4.

SAT Math Practice Online Test Question No 2:

If 5a + 6b = 13 and 4a + 5b = 9, then what is the value of 7a + 7b?

Show/Hide Answer Key

Correct Answer: 28

Subtract the equations:

5a + 6b = 13

– (4a + 5b = 9)

a + b = 4

Multiply by 7: 7a + 7b = 28

SAT Math Practice Online Test Question No 3:

A jar contains fifteen marbles, five of which are white and the rest black. What is the least number of white marbles that must be added to the jar so that at least three-fifths of the marbles will be white?

Show/Hide Answer Key

Correct Answer: 10

Five out of the 15 marbles are white. If x more white marbles are added, the probability of choosing a white marble is (5 + x)/(15 + x).

This fraction must be at least 3/5, so (5 + x)/(15 + x) ≥ 3/5

Cross Multiply: 25 + 5x ≥ 45 + 3x

Subtract 3x: 25 + 2x ≥ 45

Subtract 25: 2x ≥ 20

Divide by 2: x ≥ 10

NUMBER OF BOOKS READ DURING SUMMER VACATION

SAT Math Practice Online Test Question No 4:

If four times a certain number is decreased by 5, the result is 25. What is the number?

Show/Hide Answer Key

Correct Answer: 7.5

Translate into an equation: 4x – 5 = 25

Add 5: 4x = 30

Divide by 4: x = 7.5

SAT Math Practice Online Test Question No 5:

If the circumference of the circle above is 10π, then what is the value of a2+b2?

Show/Hide Answer Key

Correct Answer: 100

Circumference = πd, so you can find the diameter:

Divide by π: πd = 10π : d = 10

This diameter is also the hypotenuse of a right triangle, so by the Pythagorean theorem, a² + b² = d² = 10² = 100.

SAT Math Practice Online Test Question No 6:

Every term in a certain sequence is one less than three times the previous term. If the fourth term of this sequence is 95, what is the first term of the sequence?

Show/Hide Answer Key

Correct Answer: 4

If each term is 1 less than 3 times the previous term, then each term is also of the number that is 1 greater than the successive term. Since the fourth term is 95, the third term must be of 96, which is 32. Repeating this shows that the second term is 11 and the first term is 4.

SAT Math Practice Online Test Question No 7:

In the figure above, AB = 6, BC = 6, and CD = 2. What is AD?

Show/Hide Answer Key

Correct Answer: 10

Mark the diagram with the given information. The dotted lines show that AD is the hypotenuse of a right triangle with legs of length 8 and 6. So to find it, just the Pythagorean Theorem: 6² + 8² = (AD)²

Simplify: 100 = (AD)²

Take the square root: 10 = AD

SAT Math Practice Online Test Question No 8:

If 8x + 4y = 20, then what is the value of 2x + y =

Show/Hide Answer Key

Correct Answer: 5

Think simple: What’s the simplest way to turn 8x + 4y into 2x + y? Just divide by 4!

Divide by 4: 8x + 4y = 20

2x + y = 5

SAT Math Practice Online Test Question No 9:

The ratio of men to women in a room is 4:5. If the room contains three more women than men, how many women are in the room?

Show/Hide Answer Key

Correct Answer: 15

Ratios such as 4:5 can also be written as 4x : 5x. So the number of men m is 4x and the number of women w is 5x.

Plug those values into the equation w = m + 3

5x = 4x + 3

Subtract 4x: x = 3

Plug 3 in to 5x: w = 5x = 5(3) = 15

SAT Math Practice Online Test Question No 10:

A mixture of water and sucrose is 10% sucrose by weight. How many grams of pure sucrose must be added to a 200-gram sample of this mixture to produce a mixture that is 20% sucrose?

Show/Hide Answer Key

Correct Answer: 25

First calculate how many grams of sucrose there are in 200 grams of a 10% mixture.

(200 grams)(.10) = 20 grams of sucrose

Since you will be adding x grams of sucrose, the total weight of sucrose will be 20 + x grams, and the total weight of the mixture will be 200 + x grams.

Since the fraction that will be sucrose is 20%, (20 + x)/(200 + x) = 20/100

Cross Multiply: (20 + x)(100) = 20(200 + x)

Distribute: 2,000 + 100x = 4,000 + 20x

Subtract 2,000: 100x = 2,000 + 20x

Subtract 20x: 80x = 2,000

Divide by 80: x = 25
