About SSC Stenographer Grade C & D

SSC (Staff Selection Commission) recruits in Grade C (Group B- Non-Gazetted) and Grade D (Group C- Non-Gazetted) stenographer to work in various ministries and departments under the Government of India suitable. The work of stenographer includes the responsibility of press conference briefings, speech writing, helping in public relation. Stenographer mainly work as a personal assistant to a class one officer in any department of the Central Government. They are doing the job of taking dictations, noting down important things, attending calls, maintaining files, attending to officers, bookings etc. For becoming a stenographer, you need to know the shorthand writing at 80 words per minute for SSC Stenographer Grade D while 100 words per minute for SSC Stenographer Grade C.

SSC Stenographer exam will be conducted by November 2022.

SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern

SSC Commission will conduct a Computer Based Examination comprising 200 questions carrying 200 marks for two hours duration.

For this SSC conducts, the question paper would have two tiers, SSC Stenographer Tier-I and SSC Stenographer Tier-II as detailed below:

In SSC Stenographer Tier-I (Preliminary Exam) (Online CBT):

In SSC Stenographer Tier-II (Skill Test) (On Both Paper & Computer):

After qualifying the SSC Stenographer Tier-I (Preliminary Exam) examination, candidates need to go through a skill test to get selected for the post.

Skill test of examination will be on Shorthand Notepad and the same has to be transcribed on a computer. It can be language can be either English or Hindi.

The candidates will be dictated a passage at the following speed.

For Stenographer Group ‘D’: 80 words per minute (w. p. m.) for 8 Minutes
For Stenographer Group ‘C’: 100 words per minute (w. p. m.) for 10 Minutes

After taking down the shorthand notes the candidates will have to transcribe the same on the computer. The Skill Test will be qualifying in nature.
